[Should Shijima decide to enter Matthew's apartment during the 14th of February at one point, she'll find it empty of all the occupants and there's almost nothing of interest out in the open. Almost.
For there's something waiting for her on the table. Two things, really.
The first gift is a large gift filled with smaller gifts. Items like candies and fresh white camellias. There's a certain reason he chose those flowers for her. It's all in the meaning. There is also, carefully tucked away like the surprise it is meant to be, a necklace for her that he bought for her. The second gift is a box of delicious cupcakes that have the theme of, naturally, playing cards. Whether he made this by himself or paid someone (like Sally/Zelma/Whatever her name is) to make this will be up to anyone's guessing. In the box is also a simple note addressed to her. It simply greets her a happy Valentine's Day, wishing her good health and to please make sure to close the window when she leaves.
There is a smiley face where he would usually leave his signature after that message.]
[ she's been keeping an eye on him, mostly from rooftops, sometimes from windowsills or people's houses (for the latter, she's usually in a more four-legged form). she knows that it's a holiday when she chooses to visit the empty house, but the gift is a surprise. she spends a good minute circling and staring at it. when she does get a closer look, the necklace is the first thing she touches.
that is slipped into a pocket of her soft sweater, to be pawed and and held up to the light later. she doesn't take all of the cupcakes, or all of the candy. but the basket of flowers, she takes. how she carries it back out from the window is unknown, but there's no trace of it by the time matthew comes back.
she shuts the window on her way out, though. by the end of the night there's an old cigar box lying on the windowsill. it's battered and obviously used, and inside, there aren't even any cigars. there's a pack of cigarettes of a good brand and a pack of playing cards (equally worn). she isn't sure what people want for gifts, most of the time, but he had seemed to enjoy smoking the last time she'd seen him (read: watched him from a rooftop in the middle of the night). ]
[ shijima, I really need to get to know you better, you fascinating thing ]
Well, alright. Second favourite. Third favourite. However many favourites down the list it takes for your favourite to be in Rapture. You just need something to nibble on, that's all.
( action. during valentine's day. )

It would depend on the tea.
Is this an offer, stardoctor? I'm prepared.

Your preference, then?
Maybe. Meet me at Arcadia tomorrow evening if you're free. You'll find me attached to a small green lighty thing that whines.

I'll find you, then.

Should I bring anything in particular?

I'll look, but I don't think there are many birds here.

[ she's quiet, considering. yes, she'll find something. birds are fun because they're feathery and their hearts flutter. ]
I won't leave you to spend the night alone, then! Don't worry.
